Macy's will close its downtown Minneapolis store and will sell its 12-story building on Nicollet Mall to a New York firm. The 601W Cos. of New York is paying $40 million for the 12-story building. Macy's will close in March, the company confirmed. The store employs 280 associates and warned the state in December that mass layoffs are coming. The move is part of a broader slate of store closings by Macy's, which said it would shutter 68 stores, impacting more than 5,000 of its employees nationwide.
