Clear number 1 for online lotto,
Lotto24 expands its online market share to 31 percent in 2016

(Hamburg, 19 January 2017) In its fiscal year 2016, Lotto24 AG, Hamburg, achieved significant growth in its share of the German online lottery market, surpassing the 30-percent-mark for the first time. This makes Lotto24 the leading online provider of state-licensed lotteries in Germany by far.

According to information published by the German Association of State Lottery Companies (DLTB) and the German Lottery Association, total revenues of DLTB (including »Lotto 6aus49« and »EuroJackpot«) rose by around 0.4 percent in 2016 to approximately EUR 7.3 billion. Stakes generated online by state-owned companies and private lottery brokers with permits rose by 25 percent to about EUR 650 million (2015: EUR 520 million). As a result, the online segment now accounts for around 9 percent of total stakes (prior year: 7 percent).

Lotto24 alone was responsible for about half of this growth: with an increase of 47 percent in preliminary billings to EUR 201 million (prior year: EUR 136 million), Lotto24 AG once again expanded its market leadership as an online provider of state-licensed lotteries with an increased market share of 31 percent (prior year: 26 percent). As an official partner of DLTB, Lotto24 AG has thus captured almost a third of the online lottery market over the past four years.

'Since our market launch, it has always been one of our strategic targets - in addition to quality leadership and the highest customer satisfaction figures - to reach and then expand market leadership. And we successfully achieved this in 2016,' says Petra von Strombeck, CEO of Lotto24 AG. 'The online lottery market has now reached a consolidation phase. And with its strong current momentum, Lotto24 is excellently positioned to achieve its next corporate objective - reaching break-even.'

The trend towards both online and mobile lottery playing continues to gather pace and the potential is still huge: according to a representative online survey in December 2016 commissioned by Lotto24, around 70 percent of those questioned have made firm plans to play lotto online in future.
