MCLEAN, Va., Jan. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) (NYSE: SAI) announced today it was awarded a prime contract by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Federal Systems Integration and Management Center (FEDSIM) to provide analysis, combat planning and training, information technology (IT) sustainment and operations support for the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization (JIEDDO) Counter-IED Operations/Intelligence Integration Center (COIC). The multi-award, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract has a two-year period of performance, three one-year options and a contract ceiling value of $900 million if all options are exercised.

JIEDDO provides counter-IED capability in support of combatant commanders to enable the defeat of the IED as a strategic weapon of influence. It does so by rapidly developing innovative equipment and technology, training troops and providing them with expertise. Under the contract, SAIC will provide analysis, combat, IT sustainment and operations support as required, including: counter-IED information operations; intelligence support, operations research and systems analysis to predict, preempt and defeat IEDs; combat planning and training; and IT sustainment support to satisfy the mission requirements of the JIEDDO-COIC Attack the Network Line of Operation. SAIC is one of five contractors that will compete for task orders under the contract.

"We look forward to providing in-theater and reach back support to attack and defeat enemy counter-IED networks, enabling the JIEDDO-COIC to prevent casualties and save U.S. and Coalition Forces lives," said Larry Hill, SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager.
