Kuala Lumpur Kepong withdraws High Carbon Stock Approach membership

Kuala Lumpur Kepong (KLK) has notified the High Carbon Stock Approach (HCSA) Secretariat on 5 April 2023, the decision to withdraw our HCSA membership effective immediately. A HCSA member since 2018, this decision to withdraw came after careful and extensive deliberations.

As a member of The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), KLK is deeply committed to our sustainability journey since 2004, even before sustainability reporting was made mandatory in 2016 for all Malaysian public listed companies. We augmented our sustainability pledge by establishing sustainability policies, which eventually evolved into a consolidated Sustainability Policy in 2018, committing to No Deforestation, No new development on Peat, and No Exploitation (NDPE). With the inclusion of HCSA toolkit and methodology into the RSPO's principles and criteria, we will continue to adopt the methodology through RSPO to drive our NDPE commitment.

KLK has been proactively engaging with third parties, stakeholders, and suppliers to ensure that we are on the right and effective path towards a better future in every aspect. This journey continues as KLK strongly believes in doing what is right, beyond compliance with any regulatory requirements. In addition, KLK is increasing our focus on climate change action, placing priority in developing and acting on carbon reduction initiatives.

KLK would like to extend our appreciation to HCSA, the secretariat and its members for the support and cooperation throughout the years. We have indeed learned a lot, gained many friends and always grateful for the assistance and support received since 2018.
