Aiming to create social value and contribute to a sustainable society
Yusuke Otani,
President and Representative
Director
Companies are now required more than ever to address sustainability initiatives as a member of society, in addition to the pursuit of proft, which has traditionally been regarded as a top priority.
IINO Group has identifed the materiality, key sustainability issues, based on two axes: business and social impact, taking the opinions of our stakeholders into account.
Of particular importance in the materiality is "Always Safety First," as stated in our Corporate Philosophy. By providing safety and security in both the Shipping and Real Estate businesses, we hope to connect the wishes of people around the world, build a brighter future, and realize our Corporate Philosophy.
We have set the creation of social value by overcoming materiality as a key strategy in our mid-term management plan, with a particular focus on three areas: Realization of a Decarbonized Society, Enhancement of Diversity and Human Capital, and Respect for Human Rights. In our efforts to realize a decarbonized society, we have established a roadmap to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, and aim to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, in order to maximize corporate value through mutual growth of the Company and employees, we have set KPIs related to strengthening human capital. As a response to respect for human rights, we have expressed our support for the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and are addressing human rights including the supply chain through the formulation of the Group's human rights policy, procurement policy, and supplier code of conduct, as well as through the implementation of human rights due diligence.
IINO Group will promote initiatives to create social value and contribute to a sustainable society in order to realize its long-term goal, IINO VISION for 2030, namely to become an independent global corporate group that continues to evolve with creative ideas in response to the demands of the times.

Basic Views
With companies required to implement sustainability initiatives even more than before, the IINO Group has stepped up its efforts to implement management that emphasizes sustainability.
We have formulated IINO VISION for 2030 as our long-term target, and to achieve the vision, we aim to become an "independent global company that continues to evolve with creative ideas in response to the demands of the times" by driving various initiatives to create social value and contribute to a sustainable society. In 2021, identifed materiality (key sustainability issues) based on the two axes of business and social impact, taking the opinions of our stakeholders into account. In "The Adventure to Our Sustainable Future," our new mid-term management plan we have been implementing since FY2023, we have also positioned the creation of social value by overcoming materiality as a key strategy.

Sustainability Promotion Structure
In "Be Unique and Innovative.: The Next Stage - Towards 2030," the previous mid-term management plan that was announced in 2020, the IINO Group committed to promoting ESG management. As a part of sustainability initiatives identifed as a key strategy in the plan, IINO established the IINO Environmental Task Force made up of personnel from multiple Group companies and departments to drive implementation of those efforts.
In June 2022, the existing task force was reorganized with the establishment of the Sustainability Promotion Department as a dedicated department tasked with further enhancing ESG management. We also formed the Environmental Promotion Working Team and CSR Working Team within the department to promote sustainability initiatives including the environment and human resources across the IINO Group.

Management System Certifcations (Group Companies)
In addition to the IINO Group, IINO Marine Service Co., Ltd. (IMS) (ship management) and IINO Building Technology Co., Ltd. (IBT) (building management) have obtained ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifcations in our Group companies. Combined, the sales generated by these three companies account for approximately 90% of IINO Group revenue.
IINO Marine Service's Initiatives
IMS has integrated its management systems based on ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 in accordance with its business philosophy on Health, Safety, Security, Environment, and Quality. IMS has incorporated the principles underlying ISO requirements in its services for the management of ships (33 vessels as of June 30, 2023) contracted by its customers (ship owners) and is working to achieve continuous improvement of its operations.
Moreover, IMS became the frst company in Japan to obtain the Green Award certifcation* in 2004. IMS has continued to maintain outstanding quality management and environmental management for environmental conservation, and in November 2022 large LPG carriers were newly added to the vessels it manages.
Against the backdrop of serious global environmental issues, the shipping industry is facing stricter environmental regulations, such as the enforcement of the Ship Ballast Water Management Convention and regulations for controlling NOx and SOx emissions. Through the implementation of management systems based on ISO standards, IMS is committed to ensuring compliance with environmental regulations in Japan and overseas and will promote initiatives to reduce environmental impacts.
- Certifcation granted to vessels that combine high levels of quality, safety, and environmental performance and the companies that manage them by the Green Award Foundation, which was established in 1994 by the Dutch Ministry of Transport and Rotterdam Municipal Port Management.
IINO Building Technology's Initiatives
IBT is applying integrated management systems based on ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 to the buildings it manages (four buildings as of March 31, 2022 so that its operations refect ISO requirements.
Regarding environmental protection, IBT emphasizes energy saving and resource saving in its building management and is contributing to the minimization of environmental impacts through the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The Group's fagship IINO Building has reacquired Top-level Facility certifcation for the third compliance period (FY2020 - FY2024) of the global warming countermeasures conducted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
Regarding safety, we obtained the fre safety building certifcate (commonly called Excellence Mark) from the Tokyo Fire Department for the building in 2018 and also reacquired it in FY2020. In addition, starting in FY2021 we established accident review meetings. These meetings are an initiative to ensure that tenants and visitors can be provided with safety and security by conducting detailed analyses of the accidents that have occurred in the buildings we manage each month, while taking steps to prevent recurrences.

Initiatives
IINO Group's Initiatives for ISO 9001/14001 Requirements
The IINO Group's basic approaches to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 are described below.
- First, an organization identifes problems in an area subject to management (i.e., operational quality for ISO 9001 and reduction of environmental impact for ISO 14001), prioritizes identifed problems according to the degree of risk mitigation and expected results, and sets its challenges and goals.
- Next, the organization develops a plan to solve the identifed challenges (Plan) and puts the plan into practice (Do).
- After implementing it, the organization checks if the plan solved its challenges, reviews the outcome of the plan as necessary (Check), and makes improvements (Act) by such means as changing a way of implementing the plan for future activities.
ISO standards require organizations to make continuous improvements by implementing this PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, and Act) cycle in their activities.
ISO standards have been revised as necessary. Recent major revisions include the following. In response to these revisions, Group companies that acquired certifcation also made major revisions to their quality and environmental management systems in October 2017.
Emphasis on delivering intended results
Strengthening of leadership and commitment of the top management
Integration of business processes and ISO standards
Recommendation to adopt the process approach
In order to pursue the provision of high quality service (IINO Quality) stated in the IINO Group's current mid-term management plan, the Group is promoting continuous improvement of its entire operations by implementing the PDCA cycle based on the above-mentioned concept of the ISO standards.

Identifcation of Key Sustainability Issues
Materiality at the IINO Group
The external environment surrounding the Shipping Business and Real Estate Business has undergone signifcant change, and the social demands that are important to society and stakeholders are evolving on a daily basis.
The IINO Group has identifed its materiality (key sustainability issues) as ensuring safety and security as action to prevent accidents such as oil spills and have a signifcant impact on local communities and the environment, and accidents involving tenants and construction-related personnel, initiatives to create a decarbonized society as action on climate change and the reduction of greenhouse gases (GHGs), and biodiversity initiatives as action to preserve ecosystems and prevent pollution.
In addition, with the expectation that companies take action on respect for human rights not only internally but across the supply chain, the IINO Group recognizes its social responsibility as a global company to respect the human rights of all people and also views action on respect for human rights as a key issue.
Furthermore, in integrating specifc aspects of materiality with management policies, we recognize the importance of engaging in companywide discussion (highly transparent management) on what social issues to overcome in light of dialogue with stakeholders and having the organizational capacity to take action on those issues (workplace environments in which various people can work, both on sea and on land, and an organization made up of a highly diverse workforce).
