HONOLULU, Jan. 24, 2022 - Hawaiian Electric crews will be replacing a 40-ton transfomer at the Kunia Substation in Wahiawa on Thursday, Jan. 27. The work will close the northbound lane of Kunia Road between both entrances of Kunia Drive from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the delivery and installation of the new transformer and removal of the old one.

Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in the area during the work hours. Drivers should expect temporary lane closures in both directions for 5-10 minutes while a crane maneuvers heavy equipment in and out of the substation.

Safety signs will alert motorists of the lane closure and traffic cones will taper the road to a single lane. Flagmen and special duty police will provide onsite traffic control. Motorists should drive with caution when approaching and passing the work zone, plan ahead for traffic delays or use alternate routes.
