GAZPROM Gazpromneft-Catalytic Systems, the Gazprom Neft subsidiary responsible for developing the company's catalyst business, has assessed the outcomes of commercial testing of its proprietary diesel hydrotreatment catalyst - this catalyst having been used at the company's Omsk Refinery to produce Euro-5-standard diesel fuel since April 2020, and having proved its effectiveness against competitive international products. The technology behind this catalyst was developed by Gazprom Neft in conjunction with its scientific and research partner, Samara State Technical University, with a 35,000-tonne commercial batch being produced at that site and introduced into the production process under the oversight of Gazpromneft-Catalytic Systems specialists.
[Link]Russia's refining industry is currently almost 100% dependent on imported foreign hydrotreatment catalysts. In order to secure the domestic production of catalytic systems Gazprom Neft is implementing a national project to build the country's first advanced catalyst production plant, in Omsk. The future plant will facilitate the production of 21,000 tonnes of catalysts per year, including 4,000 tonnes of hydrotreatment catalysts. Gazprom Neft's investment in this project stands at more than RUB30 billion.
Catalysts used in oil refining processes are nano-structured agents which, when introduced into immediate chemical interactions, speed up chemical reactions in oil refining.
Gazpromneft-Catalytic Systems is a Gazprom Neft subsidiary, established to manage all aspects of the company's catalyst business, from production to the provision of a full range of technical-support services.
High-technology catalyst production at Gazprom Neft will make it possible to meet Russian refineries' demand for secondary-refining catalysts in full. Total annual production capacity is 21,000 tonnes, comprising 6,000 tonnes of hydrogenation catalysts and 15,000 tonnes of cat-cracking catalysts. These catalysts used in key secondary-refining processes, making possible the production of Euro-5 motor fuels. The development of innovative technologies in catalyst production is being undertaken by Gazprom Neft in conjunction with major Russian research and development centres specialising in catalytic processes.
