U.S. technology giant Microsoft has commissioned Spanish infrastructure company Ferrovial to build a data center near the Spanish capital, Cinco Días newspaper reported Tuesday.

Although the amount has not been disclosed, Cinco Dias cites unidentified sources close to the process as saying the contract could amount to several hundred million euros, as Microsoft plans a series of investments worth more than 12 billion euros ($12.75 billion) in 17 regions across Europe.

The data center will be built in San Sebastian de los Reyes, a city of about 90,000 inhabitants located about 20 kilometers north of Madrid.

Microsoft is planning two other projects in the Madrid region with the aim of developing cloud services such as Azure, Power Platform, Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365, Cinco Días said.
