Buchanan, N.Y. - Control room operators returned the Indian Point unit 3 nuclear power plant to service Wednesday afternoon after the plant safely shut down on Monday evening following the failure of a controller that regulates the flow of water into one of the plant''s four steam generators.

The controller has been replaced.

Unit 3 had been online for 159 continuous days prior to the shutdown.

Unit 2 was unaffected by the shutdown and has been online for 189 continuous days.

Indian Point Energy Center, in Buchanan, N.Y., is home to two operating nuclear power plants, unit 2 and unit 3, which generate approximately 2000 megawatts of electricity for homes, businesses and public facilities in New York City and Westchester County.
