GDF SUEZ acquires Térmika, a leading energy services provider in Chile
GDF SUEZ will be expanding its environmental and energy
efficiency services in Chile by acquiring Térmika, a leader
in the design, installation and management of energy
services. It will now develop its businesses under the brand
"Cofely Térmika, GDF SUEZ Group". Térmika provides two of the
most important industrial companies in Chile among its main
customers: BHP Billiton and Antofagasta Minerals, to whom GDF
SUEZ is already providing energy.
With this acquisition, GDF SUEZ, the European leader in
energy services, is now present in a country with high demand
for energy efficiency services and enjoys a solid foothold
for developing sustainable business in the region, working
with other Group companies.
Chile is an important country for GDF SUEZ. The Group is the
top electricity generator in northern Chile and operates
facilities including the Mejillones LNG receiving and
regasification terminal. Recently, the Group announced major
achievements to support Chile's strong growth prospects,
inaugurating two thermal power plants having a total capacity
of 300 MW. Finally, in renewable energy, the Group operates
the Monte Redondo wind farm, the second largest in Chile with
an installed capacity of 48 MW, and is currently building the
Laja I hydroelectric plant with a capacity of 34 MW.
A recognized, established player in energy services in Chile,
Térmika generated nearly $16 million in revenues with some
250 employees. Cofely Térmika provides tertiary and
industrial companies in the country with environment-friendly
solutions, whether through industrial utilities or
environmental engineering, to meet their energy needs and
optimize their consumption.
GDF SUEZ develops its businesses around a model based on responsible growth to take up today's major energy and environmental challenges: meeting energy needs, ensuring the security of supply, combating climate change and optimizing the use of resources. The Group provides highly efficient and innovative solutions to individuals, cities and businesses by relying on diversified gas-supply sources, flexible and low-emission power generation as well as unique expertise in four key sectors: liquefied natural gas, energy efficiency services, independent power production and environmental services.
