Europe's main stock markets were little changed at the start of trading on Tuesday, with caution prevailing ahead of the release of flash PMI indicators for the region.

In Paris, the CAC 40 lost 0.07% to 7,332.92 points around 08:05 GMT. In London, the FTSE 100 gained 0.12%, while in Frankfurt, the Dax was down 0.19%.

The EuroStoxx 50 index fell by 0.24% and the Stoxx 600 by 0.2%, while the FTSEurofirst 300

rose by 0.09%.

The S&P Global PMI indicators, expected this morning in Europe and considered a good barometer of the economy, should show a further improvement in private sector activity in February.

While these statistics should confirm the resilience of the European economy, they could at the same time fuel expectations of prolonged monetary tightening by central banks as inflation remains high.

On the stock market, Engie climbed 4.5%, topping the CAC 40, after seeing its earnings surge in 2022 thanks to higher gas prices. (Reported by Blandine Hénault, edited by Kate Entringer)
