The total number of Enersis Group customers added up to 14.02 million in the distribution business at the end of December 2012. This figure represents an 2.6% increase as compared to the 13.65 million in December 2011, or the equivalent of 360,000 new customers, confirming the company as the leader in the South American private sector.

This confirmed the natural growth of the distribution segment, an important stability factor in this line of business, which in September 2012 accounted for 49% of the Group's consolidated EBITDA, which added up to US$3,026 million (including the contribution of 51% of the generation and transmission business).

An analysis by country and company highlighted the increases in registered customers by the Peruvian subsidiary, Edelnor, with 5.2% growth (59,000 new customers), followed by the Colombian Codensa and Empresa Eléctrica de Cundinamarca with 3.7% (96,000 new customers), and the Brazilian Coelce with 3.5% (114,000 new customers). Ampla, the distributor operating in the city of Rio de Janeiro, grew 2.6% (68,000 new customers), Chilectra by 1.3% (21,000 customers), while Argentina's Edesur (in the city of Buenos Aires) kept the number of clients stable.

With this, at the end of 2012, Chilectra had a total of 1.66 million customers, Edesur had 2.39 million, Edelnor had 1.20 million, Ampla had 2.71 million, Coelce had 3.34 million, and Codensa had 2.72 million.

Energy Distributed

Regarding the energy distributed in the five markets in which the Group participates in South America (Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, and Peru), it increased by 5.1% in 2012 vs. 2011, reaching 81.8 TWh, with growth in all countries. This confirmed the economic dynamism being experienced in the region and, especially, in the countries where Enersis operates, which exhibited growth above the OECD average. In these countries alone, growth is expected to average 4.7% in 2013, according to projections by analysts.

The greatest increases in distributed power were registered in Coelce with 11% (11.3 TWh), in Chilectra with 5.4% and in Ampla with 6% (15.3 TWh and 13.5 TWh, respectively). Edelnor's distributed energy grew 4.5% (7.5 TWh), while Codensa consolidated at 3.2% (14.4 TWh) and Edesur at 3% (19.8 TWh).

In terms of the annual power demand, we can highlight the increases at Coelce with 10.0% (1,772 MW), 9.4% at Ampla (2,276 MW), and 4.8% at Edesur (3,715 MW). In turn, the power demand grew by 3.6% at Edelnor (1,104 MW) and 2.5% in Chilectra (2,604 MW), while a 0.7% decrease was observed at Codensa (2,258 MW).
