Greece is in the relatively early stages of electric vehicle (EV) adoption, but they have ambitious goals for every third vehicle in Athens to be electric by 2030, and for there to be 10,000 charging points across the country in the medium term.

To support these stretching goals, the Greek Government has invested €150m in its `I move electric' programme, which includes some very generous incentives for the purchase of EVs and EV chargers alike.

Greek citizens can currently claim a subsidy of €500 for the installation of a home smart charger, and CTEK's CHARGESTORM CONNECTED 2 EV chargers now qualify for this subsidy.

The `I move electric' programme has four goals - renewal of car fleet, developing smart charging infrastructure, reducing CO2 emissions and saving money for Greek citizens. And Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has said that every new building should have the infrastructure to charge EVs, making CTEK and its EV chargers valuable resources in the strive for a reliable infrastructure.

There are also subsidies available for the purchase of any type of EV, including electric motorcycles, three-wheelers and even e-bicycles, plus a €1,000 `withdrawal' bonus for taking a petrol or diesel car off the road.

The current €50m programme was introduced on 28 July 2022, following an initial €100 million programme that ran from 1 June 2020 to 31 December 2021.
