Joe Mathai to lead City National's Core Banking Division in the Bay Area.

SAN FRANCISCO - City National Bank, America's Premier Private and Business Bank, announced today that Joe Mathai has joined the firm as senior vice president and regional banking manager of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Based out of City National's San Jose office, Mathai is responsible for all of City National's banking operations in its 11 branches throughout the Bay Area. Mathai will provide strategic guidance to colleagues and clients in both personal and business banking.

'We are pleased to have a talented leader like Joe join our Core Banking team,' said Scott Witter, executive vice president of the bank's Core Banking Division. 'Joe will provide our clients with the customized service City National is known for.'

'City National continues to invest in the best talent and resources to serve our clients, colleagues and community where we do business,' said Michael Walker, executive vice president and regional executive for Northern California with City National. 'With Joe's proven leadership, we are better able to serve the Northern California region.'

Mathai has more than two decades of financial services experience, most recently serving as the area president for Wells Fargo on the Central Coast, where he was responsible for more than 40 branches.

Mathai earned his bachelor's degrees from the University of Delhi and from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. He is also a graduate of the Consumer Banker Association's Graduate School of Retail Bank Management from the University Of Virginia. Active in the community, he serves on the boards of the Boys & Girls Club of Monterey County and the St. Joseph's Family Center, where he is on the finance and strategy committee.

City National has been serving the Bay Area since 1999 and now has 11 offices from San Jose to Oakland, including three offices in downtown San Francisco. In addition, the bank's Palo Alto office houses the bank's growing technology and venture capital banking group. City National has more than 200 colleagues in the Bay Area.

The San Francisco Bay Area's economy is thriving - growing jobs at a 3.5 percent rate from June of last year to June of 2016, faster than the United States and one of the best rates in the country. It accounted for nearly 30 percent of the state's yearly employment gains in June, and Silicon Valley continues to take in a majority of venture capital funding in the U.S.
