Shares of Change Healthcare Inc. rose more than 30% in early trading Wednesday after the healthcare-technology company agreed to be acquired by health insurer UnitedHealth Group Inc. for about $8 billion in cash.

UnitedHealth said it would pay $25.75 a share for Change, a 41% premium to Tuesday's closing price of $18.24.

The deal, valued at roughly $13 billion including debt, adds Change's data and analytics platform to UnitedHealth's Optum health-services unit.

Change shares were recently up about 32%, to $24.06, while UnitedHealth shares slipped 0.5%, to $343.11.
