Cedar Woods kicks off Workplace Inspiration Program in SA

05 November 2021

In line with Cedar Woods' national partnership with The Smith Family - Australia's leading children's charity, the South Australian team recently hosted the companies first Workplace Inspiration Day at the picturesque Glenside estate.

Hosting a group of 17 secondary students from a local high school, the Workplace Inspiration event forms part of The Smith Family's Learning for Life program that recognises that some children need extra support to stay in school or go on to further their studies.

The Learning for Life program is delivered across 91 communities around Australia. It provides students and families with a combination of financial assistance for education essentials such as uniforms, school supplies and school excursions; tailored personal support from a Smith Family team member; and access to extra out-of-school learning and mentoring programs - all of which Cedar Woods will contribute to supporting over 100 students nationally.

Hosting the first Workplace Inspiration Program in South Australia presented a great opportunity for staff to share their real-world experiences whilst also guiding students through several activities to deliver insights into potential career pathways, both within the property development industry, and beyond.

The day consisted of three different insight activities put together by the SA team and The Smith Family representatives, including a site tour via bus revealing just how many different suppliers, stakeholders and careers are involved within a masterplanned development. In addition to this, the other two insights included staff interviews and personality quizzes in line with staff career pathways.

Research has shown early intervention is the key to preventing entrenched disadvantage, highlighting a direct correlation between external support and the rates of high school graduation and university enrolment. Cedar Woods' partnership with The Smith Family will provide support for young Australians from disadvantaged backgrounds through primary, secondary, and tertiary education in the hopes of combatting this.

With the event a great success, Cedar Woods' is looking forward to rolling out the Workplace Inspiration Program nationally within our other offices in the new year.
