Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB)continued its growth in December 2016, a month when the main BVB indices, BET and BET Total Return (BET-TR), followed an upward trend. The highest growth rate was registered by the BET-TR, which has gained almost 10% in one year and ended 2016 at a level of 8,7591.95 points. The BET-TR index, which reflects the evolution of the most ten liquid shares listed on BVB included in the BET and dividends distributed to shareholders of these companies, increased in the last three years with almost 30%.

Note that the average daily equity trading increased last year and exceeded RON 35 mn, thus approaching the level of EUR 8 mn. Furthermore, the total value of transactions with shares on the main segment exceeded for the first time in two years, EUR 2 bn.

At the end of December 2016, the market capitalization of all listed companies on the Bucharest Stock Exchange was RON 146.55 bn, the level corresponding to a figure of over EUR 32 bn. Out of this amount, the market capitalization of Romanian companies was RON 76.34 bn or EUR 16.81 bn.

In December 2016, the five most traded shares were: Banca Transilvania (TLV), Fondul Proprietatea (FP), Romgaz (SNG), OMV PETROM (SNP) and BRD - Groupe Societe Generale (BRD).

Bittnet (BNET), the first Romanian IT company listed on AeRO, the SMEs market operated by the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB), has issued 4.5 million pre-emptive rights for existing shareholders at May 20, 2016. These rights were available on the market between the 16th and 30th of December 2016, as part of a 0.78 million RON public offer.

Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB)implemented an important update to the online education platform 'Fluent in Finante: the Universal Platform for Investors' available at www.fluentinfinante.ro. Starting from December 15th, companies and universities can book free educational seminars on finance management for their employees and students directly on the www.fluentinfinante.ro website. As an additional novelty, parties interested in introducing the 'Fluent in Finante' seminars have now the option to indicate themselves the broker partner of their choice.

December 16 marked the ending of the registrations for 'Driven by Return', the first real trading competition in Romania organized by the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB). There was no minimum amount of investments required to join the competition and participants are free to apply their investment strategies, as long as they reach the minimum value of buy trades of RON 30.000 until February 17, 2017, when the competition ends.

The shares of Romania's largest private healthcare services provider, MedLife(M), started trading on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) on December 21, 2016, following the successful completion of the largest Initial Public Offer (IPO) of a private company that has ever taken place on the Romanian capital market.
