"With the trend toward vehicle electrification, BorgWarner is applying extensive expertise to deliver robust and highly efficient solutions to boost the performance, security and comfort of electric and hybrid vehicles," said Tim Manganello, BorgWarner Chairman and CEO. "As a global leader in advanced automotive technologies, we are proud to showcase our capabilities in electric and hybrid vehicles at this important event."

eGearDrive(TM) Systems Boost Performance and Range

Named a finalist for the prestigious 2010 Automotive News PACE Awards, BorgWarner's eGearDrive(TM) systems are high performance transmissions, specifically designed to be broadly adapted to a variety of electric propulsion systems for fast-to-market implementation. The systems provide primary drive for front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive based electric vehicles and series type hybrid electric vehicles, as well as launch assist, energy recovery, and AWD performance for the secondary-driven axle on any type of vehicle. Also available is an electronically actuated park lock system and various electronic drive line disconnect systems.

High-Power Electric Cabin Heaters Provide Clear View and Comfortable Ride

Unlike diesel- or gasoline-powered vehicles, electric vehicles generate virtually no waste heat, and the battery does not radiate enough heat to warm the interior or defrost the windshield. BorgWarner's new high-voltage cabin heaters provide drivers and passengers with a clear view and comfortable ride. BorgWarner engineers designed the high-voltage connection, utilizing new ceramic components. The new cabin heater can be modified for all-electric and hybrid vehicles with various electrical system voltages.

Coolant Pumps Improve Fuel Economy, Performance

Designed to meet the specific needs of hybrid and electric vehicles, BorgWarner's variable speed coolant pumps improve fuel economy. BorgWarner is currently working with major OEMs to develop this new technology.
