ANDRITZ to supply new flue gas cleaning system to Hamm waste incineration plant, Germany
2024/07/04
International technology group ANDRITZ has received the order for the complete renewal of the flue gas cleaning system at the Hamm waste incineration plant in Germany.

This modernization ensures the further reduction of emissions in line with new legal requirements, thus securing the future of the site.

The Hamm waste incineration plant processes around 280,000 tons of waste from private households and businesses annually, generating electricity and heat for the district heating system. In close cooperation with the customer and its general planner, ANDRITZ has developed a customized concept for the step-by-step replacement of the four existing flue gas cleaning lines, which allows for nearly uninterrupted operation of the incineration plant during the rebuild.

ANDRITZ will supply four new state-of-the-art flue gas cleaning lines. The lines will use the proven TurboSorp process based on a circulating fluidized bed and a catalytic denitrification process. The 3-stage system will clean the flue gases from the incineration process to such an extent that the emissions remain well below the legally prescribed limits of the amended 17th Federal Emission Protection Ordinance (17th BImSchV), making the plant operation more sustainable and future-proof.

Construction work is scheduled to begin at the end of 2024, with the completion of the last flue gas cleaning line planned for 2028.

"ANDRITZ already demonstrated its adaptability and flexibility in the face of technical changes during the tendering process. Their approach after conclusion of the contract underlines this professionalism. We are looking forward to a trustful cooperation," said Jürgen Kunze, Managing Director at MVA Hamm.

Harald Reissner, Head of Clean Air Technologies at ANDRITZ, stated: "We are proud to contribute with our technologies to minimizing emissions and to securing the future of the Hamm plant."
