American Tower Corporation (NYSE:AMT) agreed to acquire approximately 1,400 wireless communications towers from Telefónica Celular del Paraguay S.A. for approximately PYG 700 billion on April 25, 2017. The specific number of towers and final purchase price will be determined once the various closings have taken place, which are subject to customary closing conditions. Additionally, Telefónica Celular del Paraguay and American Tower Corporation (ATC) have entered into a long-term local currency leasing agreement whereby ATC will provide Telefónica Celular del Paraguay with wireless communications towers to support Tigo Paraguay’s wireless networks and rollout plans. The first 1,266 towers were transferred by June 30, 2018. The first closing of 836 towers occurred on August 11, 2017 and American Tower Corporation paid PYG 426 billion. Additional closings for 430 towers occurred in the first half of 2018, pursuant to which American Tower Corporation paid PYG 219 billion. The transaction subject to customary closing condition. The transaction is expected to close during the second half of 2017. The remaining transfer of towers is expected to occur in the second half of 2018. The transaction is expected to create savings in both capital and operating expenditures for Tigo Paraguay.

American Tower Corporation specializes in owning, developing and operating of wireless and broadcast communications infrastructure. Net sales break down by activity as follows:
- rental and management of communications sites (98.7%): wireless towers (224,502 towers owned at the end of 2023), broadcast towers and distributed antenna systems (integrated systems in operated in malls and casino/hotel resorts). The group also leases antenna space on communications towers, manages tower sites for third parties and provides rooftop management services;
- network development services (1.3%): providing of tower site acquisition, zoning and permitting services, and structural analysis services to wireless carriers in connection with the installation of communications equipment on towers.
Net sales are distributed geographically as follows: the United States (55.5), Brazil (7.1%), Mexico (5.5%), Latin America (3.6%), Africa (11%), India (10.2%), Europe ( 7%) and others (0.1%).
