Alstom announced that it had received an order to deliver electromechanical equipment and technical services for Sinohydro Corp. Ltd.'s 270-MW Soubre hydropower plant (HPP) project in Africa. As part of the deal, Sinohydro Corp.

will receive three 90-MW Francis turbine-generator sets, one 5-MW Bulb turbine-generator unit and related equipment for the HPP in Cote d'Ivoire. Alstom will be in charge of the design and fabrication of the equipment. It will also oversee the installation of the machines, commission and test them.

Alstom will manufacture the equipment at its plant in Tianjin, China. The Soubre hydropower station in Ivory Coast, West Africa will be capable of producing about 1,100 GWh of electricity each year. It will be built on the Sassandra river and will be the large of its kind in Ivory Coast, officially the Republic of Cote d'Ivoire.

The contract is the second partnership between Alstom Hydro China and Sinohydro after the Bui HPP project in Ghana, which features three turbines of 133 MW each.
