Tashkent, Uzbekistan; 03 July 2024: ACWA Power was honoured to host His Excellency António Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, along with His Excellency Jurabek Mirzamahmudov, Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan, and His Excellency Yousef Saleh Algahrah Al-Otaibi, Saudi Arabian Ambassador, at the Tashkent Riverside project site recently. The tour involved the distinguished guests visiting the 200 MW PV installation and 500 MWh battery energy storage (BESS) facility located at Tashkent Riverside.
During the visit, the delegates were provided with insights into the innovative technologies and sustainable energy solutions implemented at the Tashkent Riverside facility.
This greenfield development incorporates solar and BESS components to stabilize the Uzbek power grid, which, until now, has relied on energy from conventional sources. According to project proponents, this will be the largest BESS in Central Asia.

Saudi-listed ACWA Power has announced the completion of the dry financial close for the US$533 million Tashkent Riverside project in Uzbekistan, near the country's capital city of Tashkent.
The project will play an instrumental role in achieving Uzbekistan's ambitious targets to transition to a low-carbon economy, as well as diversify its energy sources. By 2030, Uzbekistan is aiming to install 25 GW of renewables and generate 40% of its electricity from renewables.
