2018-01-29 - Pioneering technology leader wins for innovative and environmentally friendly wiring accessories frame

The new recyclable wiring accessories cover frame offers all the benefits of plastic without damaging the environment. Extending the company's Mylos range of stylish, high-tech switches for the home, the Etik cover frame replaces traditional thermoplastic frames with a new bio-material - I am Nature - which recently won the 12th Global Bioplastics Award.

Supplied by Italian compounder, Maip, I am Nature is a strong, durable bio-technopolymer that is heat, light and water resistant. It offers all the benefits of a traditional thermoplastic material, but is manufactured from sustainably sourced mineral and natural materials. It can also be blended with other bio-based products or with other biodegradable materials.

Mylos Etik cover frame has already received the Silver A' Design Award and the Good Design Award for Product Design because of its simplicity and elegance. Judges for the Global Bioplastics Award singled out the frame as a winning example of how combining polymers with other natural ingredients can lead to 'sophisticated applications'.

Franco Colombo, Research and Development Manager for ABB's Electrification Products division, said: 'We are delighted to receive this recognition for our continuing efforts to develop products that are both high quality and environmentally friendly.

'Protecting the environment is one of the key challenges for home builders and the Etik cover frame is our latest product aimed at reducing carbon footprint and improving sustainability in the industry. This is a completely new and innovative material that looks great and performs just as well as thermoplastic and it has the potential to revolutionize the sector.'

ABB's Mylos range for the home offers an array of innovative features and benefits including: slim and stylish design; the latest LED technology; velvet soft finish devices; and a complete range of home and building automation.
