The Paris Bourse began the week down a modest 0.18%, at 7386 points, despite gains by Worldline (+3.5%) and TotalEnergies (+1.8%).

The session was punctuated by the publication of several statistics.

In Europe, the final PMIs for the manufacturing sector livened up the start of the session today, given that their preliminary estimates had disappointed, showing figures at their lowest since the start of the pandemic.

The PMI HCOB buyers' index for French manufacturing, produced by S&P Global, recovered very slightly from May's 45.7 to stand at 46.0 in June.

For the record, it is the 50 threshold that separates expansion and contraction in a sector's activity for the PMI indices: the lower the index falls below this threshold, the faster the rate of contraction.

The HCOB PMI index for the eurozone manufacturing industry fell from 44.8 in May to 43.4 in June.

Across the Atlantic, the US manufacturing sector fell sharply to 46 from 46.9, for the eighth consecutive month in June, according to the results of a monthly survey published this Monday by the Institute for Supply Management (ISM).

Another manufacturing PMI published in the morning, that of S&P Global, came out sharply down, confirming the prospect of a possible entry into recession for the US economy in the second half of the year.

Volumes were low and trading very quiet in New York on the eve of the July 4th holiday, which will see trading close at 1:00 p.m. (7:00 p.m. Paris time).

On the bond market, the situation is reversing, with yields on 10-year US government bonds easing until around 4pm (from 3.82pts to 3.835%), while German Bund and OAT yields for the same maturity, the eurozone's benchmark, are down from -2 to +3 basis points at 2.425% and 2.965% respectively.

The situation continues to deteriorate for British Gilts, with +8.5pts to 4.472%, real inflation in the UK being close to 11%.

In currencies, the dollar continues to recover against all the major currencies, and the euro gives up a few fractions, -0.1% around $1.0912.

The price of a barrel of Brent crude oil rose by almost 1.2% to $75.8.

In company news, Airbus announced this evening that the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) in Koblenz (Germany) has renewed its contract for in-service support of the Luftwaffe's A400M aircraft.

Orange, Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN), Elettra Tlc and Medusa announce the start of the construction contract for the Medusa submarine cable system.

The SES-imagotag share (-2%) did not benefit this Monday from the announcement of three new contracts in the USA, where the group explains that it is accelerating its growth. In a press release published this morning, the company indicated that it had signed an agreement with 'one of the largest American convenience store chains'.
