"Russia will do everything to prevent a global conflict. But at the same time, we will not allow anyone to threaten us. Our strategic forces are always in combat readiness."

Russia on Thursday (May 9) marked the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two as relations with the West spiral deeper into crisis over the advance of Russian troops against Ukraine's Western-backed forces.

President Vladimir Putin and a number of foreign heads of state arrived in Moscow's Red Square for the annual Victory Day parade.

Alongside Putin the presidents of Kazakhstan, Laos, Guinea-Bissau, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Turkmenistan, and Cuba attended the parade.
