Perry Warjiyo said news of "positive signs of trade negotiations" should mean global conditions will not worsen and that can provide stability for the rupiah.

He also said the rupiah's exchange rate against the dollar was undervalued and that Bank Indonesia's (BI) monetary policy for 2019 will remain "pro-stability".

BI raised interest rates six times last year to defend the rupiah, which hit its lowest since 1998 before recovering towards the end of the year. The currency traded at 14,450 per dollar by 0635 GMT, down 0.5 percent from its 2018 close.
