The Wireless Innovation Forum announced today the approval by its membership of the Endorsement of the SCA 4.1 Specification. In the endorsement, the Wireless Innovation Forum endorses the Joint Tactical Networking Center (JTNC) SCA 4.1 Specification, including appendices, as a preferred software architecture for software defined radios. The JTNC publicly announced the standard availability on 9 Sept 2015.

Details of the recommendation by the Forum are available in the Forum’s Recommendations Library: http://groups.winnforum.org/d/do/8773.

“This endorsement further illustrates the interest of Forum members in this important updated specification,” said Bruce Oberlies of Motorola Solutions (NYSE: MSI), Chair of the Wireless Innovation Forum. “Forum members are committed to supporting commercialization of the standard by the broader SDR community through providing additional support material to SCA 4.1 adopters, including a report of SCA 2.2.2 to SCA 4.1 Migration Considerations, defining domain specific profiles and SCA 4.1 Test Evaluation Criteria.”

The Forum’s Coordinating Committee on International SCA Standards (CC SCA) worked with the JTNC to develop technical recommendations and WInnF Standards for SCA 4.1 beginning November 2013. Following the release of the draft standard in February 2015 (http://groups.winnforum.org/d/do/7959) the CC SCA also adjudicated issues submitted by the general public and submitted subsequent recommendations.

The WInnF Standards developed in support of SCA elaboration are:

  • Lw and ULw POSIX AEPs for Resource Constrained Processors, V1.0.1 http://groups.winnforum.org/d/do/7500
  • IDL Profiles for Platform-Independent Modeling of SDR Applications, V2.0.1 http://groups.winnforum.org/d/do/7967

The WInnF Recommendations submitted to the JTNC include:

  • SCA 4.1 Deployment Data (http://groups.winnforum.org/d/do/8207)
  • SCA 4.1 Domain Component Type Uniformity (http://groups.winnforum.org/d/do/8206)
  • SCA 4.1 Domain Late Registration (http://groups.winnforum.org/d/do/8205)
  • DomainManager and DeviceManager instance level property value (http://groups.winnforum.org/d/do/8204)
  • SCA 4.1 Allocation Properties (http://groups.winnforum.org/d/do/8203)
  • Device Deployment Enhancement (http://groups.winnforum.org/d/do/8292)
  • Component Instantiation Name (http://groups.winnforum.org/d/do/8293)
  • SCA v4.1 SAD and DCD Uniformity (http://groups.winnforum.org/d/do/8294)
  • Proposals for SCA v4.1 SCA Clarifications (Clarifications 1: http://groups.winnforum.org/d/do/8295; Clarifications 2: http://groups.winnforum.org/d/do/8296)
