Today, Michelle Rempel, Member of Parliament for Calgary Centre-North, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for the Huntington Hills Community Centre under the Harper Government's Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF).

"Our Government is committed to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity in our communities," said MP Rempel. "By improving facilities such as this community centre, we are helping to boost economic activity and maintain a high quality of life for Canadians."

The Harper Government's investment of $157,166 will assist with numerous interior upgrades to the Huntington Hills Community Centre. These enhancements will improve the energy efficiency of the building and provide safer access for those with limited mobility.

"We are very pleased with the support from the Federal Government and Ms. Rempel on this project that will help maintain the Community Centre that was opened back in 1978, serving the north central corridor of Calgary," said Jim Murphy, General Manager of the Huntington Hills Community Association. "I look forward to an enhanced building that can continue to offer accessible programs and services to individuals of all ages, for many years to come."

In Economic Action Plan 2012, the Harper Government announced further support to help communities across the country modernize their infrastructure. Our Government committed $150 million over two years for the Fund. The Fund supports projects that look to improve existing community infrastructure accessible for use by the public, such as community centres, recreational buildings, local arenas, cultural and other community facilities.

Since 2006, the Harper Government, through WD, has invested in job-creating small and medium-sized businesses, aerospace, marine and defence industries, and supported innovative entrepreneurs in pursuing emerging markets. By continuing to promote new economic opportunities, WD is helping to create jobs, economic growth, and long-term prosperity.
