Shares of power producers fell as a sharp increase in demand started to ease.

The heat that has been driving up demand to power air conditioning across the country showed signs of falling.

"Dipping natural gas demand and returning production have imploded bullish momentum, derailing the likelihood of near-term prices outrunning soft longer-term fundamentals," Eli Rubin of EBW Analytics said in a note.
