AES says it signed a deal to sell its 51% stake in a coal-fired power plant in Vietnam to a group led by a U.S.-based investor it didn't name.

Coal has faced heightened pressure of late as some investors push energy companies, utilities and miners to focus on power sources that emit less carbon than coal.

AES says it has a strategy in place to invest in renewable energy and liquified natural gas infrastructure, including in Vietnam, where it is developing an LNG terminal and a gas-fired power facility.
