Public Works Director Robert Malley would like to caution those who plow, shovel or snowblow their driveways into the street.

'Depending on the amount, it can be a safety issue for motorists who transit through the snow. It can also compromise any treatments that have been previously applied to the road, such as salt and sand. Our operators take pride in cleaning up the roads after the storm has abated. It can be disheartening to come upon a bunch of snow in the street that didn't naturally fall there.'

Maine statutes prohibit persons from placing, and allowing to remain on a public way, snow or slush that has not accumulated there naturally. [Title 29-A, Chapter 21, Section 2396-4]. Fine for violation is $190.
