SimpliVity, a leader in hyperconverged infrastructure for the software-defined data center, announced today that The Vollrath Company, LLC, a manufacturer of stainless steel and aluminum small-wares and equipment, has deployed SimpliVity OmniCube as its data center and remote office infrastructure. As a result, The Vollrath Company has experienced a tremendous increase in operational efficiency, as well as significant cost savings and unsurpassed flexibility, scalability and data protection with OmniCube hyperconverged infrastructure.

“SimpliVity OmniCube is one of the most versatile hyperconverged infrastructure systems available,” said John Sharp, IT manager of infrastructure, The Vollrath Company, LLC. “Its native backup and deduplication provides incredible flexibility for use in branch offices where IT support staff may not be local. While other competitors had scale and flexibility limitations, SimpliVity was the only company that understood our approach and had flexible, building block capabilities to meet our needs.”

With headquarters in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and numerous other locations in Wisconsin, New York, Mexico, the Netherlands, and China to oversee, The Vollrath Company had challenges concerning the optimization of management in its remote offices, as well as its ability to provide secure and reliable data protection using aging infrastructure. Prior to deploying SimpliVity’s hyperconverged infrastructure, The Vollrath Company relied on a third-party support team to assist its limited IT staff in managing remote office issues, adding $30K to its annual operational expenses. In addition, The Vollrath Company needed to upgrade to a solution that offered superior backup and replication for its mission-critical applications, including Microsoft SQL Server, File/Print Servers and Active Directory.

The Vollrath Company selected SimpliVity's hyperconverged infrastructure, after being duly impressed by its capabilities for high availability, failover, replication, scalability and VDI. OmniCube’s deduplication, compression and optimization of data inline to disk and over the WAN allowed Vollrath to move data from an 80GB server across its T1 line in Wisconsin and back it up in its New York office using less than one percent of the pipe and in fewer than 15 minutes—a process that would normally take several hours to complete and could trigger a disruption that could incur costly data loss to the company. Thus far, Vollrath has experienced a 99:1 data efficiency ratio, resulting in a 103TB capacity savings. This capacity savings includes copies made for backup and disaster recovery on local and remote OmniCube systems.

The incremental modularity of SimpliVity's hyperconverged infrastructure lets The Vollrath Company decompose the system in an agile fashion and reconfigure it as per its requirements. This building block benefit, combined with OmniCube’s Global Unified Management through vCenter, enables Vollrath to scale according to a pay-as-you-grow model and remotely manage its branch offices from the central site in Wisconsin.

“We’re thrilled to work with The Vollrath Company and enable the company to better manage its mission-critical applications across its facilities,” said Mitch Breen, senior vice president of worldwide sales, SimpliVity. “OmniCube hyperconverged infrastructure provides the flexibility and cost savings that many customers want and need as they look for solutions that will significantly reduce OPEX, improve operational efficiency and simplify the complexities of their data centers.”
