Wednesday 15 January 2014 Industry handbook raises awareness of UK fabrication capabilities

Oil & Gas UK today publishes its UK Offshore Oil and Gas Fabricators Directory, providing a showcase for British construction yards which design and build major facilities for both domestic and international energy markets.

The 98-page handbook contains comprehensive and independently verified information about twelve fabricator companies, employing 6,000 permanent employees and operating from 18 locations across the country.

Oonagh Werngren, Oil & Gas UK's operations director, said: "One of Oil & Gas UK's key strategic priorities is to ensure a long term future for the UK industry supply chain and the fabrication sector is an important part of this. Our indigenous fabricators have the capacity to design and fabricate most aspects of offshore installations such as jackets, decks, modules, subsea manifolds and pipeline bundles. As a result of the substantial investment in major projects on the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) in 2013, there is currently significant demand for fabrication services, especially those associated with fields developed as subsea tiebacks to existing production platforms."

Mike Skitmore, UK Business Unit Manager, Premier Oil, said: "The UK has a world-leading supply chain which Premier Oil continues to fully support across project and operating activities. The UK Offshore Fabricators Directory is an excellent showcase for this particular sector of the UK supply chain and highlights the range of its fabrication capabilities."

Terry Savage, Chairman of Oil & Gas UK's Fabricators Forum, welcomed the publication of the directory, saying: "To maintain employment for a skilled workforce requires a combination of experience, training and apprenticeships. Companies can only make the necessary commitment if they have continuity of business, so winning new orders is vital to sustain this investment in people and facilities."

Mike Pettigrew, Managing Director of Future Business at Babcock International Group, commented: "The oil and gas industry plays a vital role in the UK economy, supporting hundreds of thousands of jobs across the country. We are very fortunate to have grown our own world-leading supply chain here in the UK and it is imperative that those working within the sector have easy access to information about these abundant capabilities and the significant capacity available when considering future developments."

The publication of the directory aligns with the UK Government's 2013 Industrial Strategy for Oil and Gas which is to support the growth of the UK supply chain.
