Technavio announced the top five leading vendors in their recent global anti-collision sensors market research report. This report also lists 14 other prominent vendors that are expected to gain a market share over the forecast period.

To identify the top vendors, Technavio’s semiconductor industry research analysts have considered the top contributors to the overall revenue of this market. The report includes market forecasts of anti-collision sensors until 2020 with a breakdown of market shares by technology segments, such as radar, camera, LiDAR, ultrasound, and camera.

Shedding light on the key findings of this report, Technavio’s senior market research analyst for sensors, Asif Gani says, “The leading vendors in the global anti-collision sensors market are innovating with many unique products to capitalize on its potential. For instance, Bosch is concentrating on radar sensors, while Delphi Automotive is supplying Volvo cars with its Radar and Camera Sensor Fusion System (RACam).”

RACam integrates radar sensing, data fusion, and vision sensing in a single system, thus enabling adaptive cruise control, autonomous braking, forward collision warning, and a lane departure system for obstacles on the road. The trend of 360-degree surveillance is also expected to provide significant impetus to market vendors during the forecast period.

“However, anti-collision sensor vendors face certain challenges in lesser developed markets of Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Africa, due to low consumer awareness. The forecast period is predicted to witness increasing legislation and consumer awareness campaigns that lobby for NCAP standards of car safety in these regions, and it is likely to buoy the growth of the global anti-collision sensors market over the next four years,” added Gani.

Five leading global anti-collision sensors market vendors:

Bosch

Bosch sensors such as the electronic stability program (ESP) have gained a phenomenal reputation in making cars safer. The sensory feedback for these systems is offered by tiny microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) sensors. Since 1995, Bosch has produced around 5 billion sensors and shipped over 4 million MEMS sensors per day from its state-of-the-art wafer fabrication facility in Reutlingen, Germany. The company has more than 1,000 patents and patent applications for its MEMS technology. The company's SMI700 sensor is the core of the ESP anti-skid system that helps keep cars safe during critical situations. It records the lateral acceleration, rotational movements, and lean angle of a vehicle. SMP480 ensures quieter engine operation and optimizes the engine’s air-fuel mixture in dynamic environments. The company has provided radar sensors to global enterprises such as Google, BMW, and Tesla. The company's other key technologies include radar, video, and ultrasound sensors.

Delphi

The business of Delphi Automotive is diversified across various vehicle platforms and end markets. Its customer base includes major automotive OEMs worldwide. Some of their key customers include GM, Volkswagen, Daimler, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Shanghai General Motors, Ford Motor, PSA Peugeot Citroën, Hyundai Motor, Geely Automobile, and Toyota Motor.

Delphi Automotive markets and distributes its products worldwide. In terms of active safety systems units sold, Delphi Automotive's EMEA branch leads the global market, followed by the US and APAC. In the third quarter of FY2015 the company generated revenues worth USD 3.63 million, reports Technavio research.

Denso

Denso established its presence in the automotive anti-collision sensor sector with products such as accelerator pedal modules through its gasoline engine management system sub-segment and powertrain control systems.

Denso’s accelerator pedal module (APM) uses a sensor that detects the amount of accelerator pedal depression and sends signals to the engine control unit (ECU), also known as a car computer. The ECU controls injectors to adjust the engine power. The module controls the engine to minimize exhaust emissions without impacting driving performance. These products have contactless-hall integrated circuit sensor for higher reliability and an extensive life. Its resin components are lightweight and low cost, made available with a swash-plate pedal pressure-induced hysteresis mechanism.

TRW Automotive

TRW Automotive produces active and passive safety-related products. The company operates in four segments: Chassis systems, occupant safety systems, electronics, and automotive components. It operates 200 facilities with close to 66,100 employees in 26 vehicle-producing countries. It uses radar sensing technology to support the driver. Recently, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles announced that it would use TRW to replace 4M Takata driver-side inflators.

In May 2015, TRW was incorporated into ZF Friedrichshafen AG as a new division called Active & Passive Safety Technology. The combined company operates under the name ZF Friedrichshafen and will be working in areas ranging from driver assistance and occupant safety systems to drive lines transmissions and braking and steering systems.

Continental

Continental offers anti-collision radar sensors and driver assistance systems along with collision avoidance software. Their systems access data from vehicles through the incorporation of camera and radar sensors, allowing them to recognize unavoidable accidents. Continental’s impact sound sensors help sense the sound generated by an accident and responds accordingly. It interprets the signals and provides necessary defensive action.
