A scheme which helps Tamworth residents to stay warm in their homes is encouraging people to assess their energy bills and see if they could save money by switching supplier.

The HEAT scheme (Home Energy Advice Tamworth), is run by Tamworth Borough Council in partnership with Marches Energy Agency and Beat the Cold. It offers free help and advice about staying warm.

HEAT advisers can help those whose health is at risk from the cold by searching for grant funding towards a range of measures including heating repairs, installation of new heating systems and home insulation. The scheme can also offer energy pricing checks and general wellbeing advice, while home visits are available for vulnerable households.

Now HEAT is encouraging residents to call the freephone number to ask about saving money by switching energy suppliers - taking a positive step to reduce energy bills and ensuring they get a good deal.

Figures from comparison website uSwitch suggest that on average, people can save £191 a year by switching supplier.

Residents in Tamworth are being encouraged to call the free HEAT number on 0800 043 2815 to see if they could benefit from switching suppliers. The line is open from 9am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. HEAT advisers can provide free and impartial switching advice to all residents and can even help compare tariff options over the phone.

Cllr Stephen Doyle, Cabinet member for Communities & Public Health, said: 'I would encourage everyone who feels they could benefit to call the free HEAT number to see if they can cut their gas and electricity bills just by switching supplier.

'People often feel a lot better once they have reviewed their energy spending. Accessing a grant, discount or switching supplier can even mean they can budget to heat their home adequately during these cold months. It doesn't cost anything to find out - and you may end up with much lower energy bills. Our advisers are here to help, so just give them a call.'
