Exports and imports increased by 9% and 2.3%, respectively

According to the provisional data, produced with the cooperation of the Turkish Statistical Institute and the Ministry of Customs and Trade, in December 2016; exports were 12 billion 807 million dollars with a 9% increase and imports were 18 billion 405 million dollars with a 2.3% increase compared with December 2015.

Foreign trade deficit decreased by 10.3%

In December 2016 foreign trade deficit was 5 billion 598 million dollars with a 10.3% decrease compared with December 2015.

In December 2016, exports coverage imports was 69.6% while it was 65.3% in December 2015.

Seasonally and calendar adjusted exports decreased by 0.5%

Seasonally and calendar adjusted exports decreased by 0.5% while imports increased by 6.1% compared with previous month. Calendar adjusted exports and imports increased by 9.1%, 5.4%, respectively compared with December 2015.

Exports to the European Union increased by 4.8%

As compared with the same month of the previous year, exports to the EU-28 increased by 4.8% from 5 billion 412 million dollars to 5 billion 670 million dollars. The proportion of the EU countries was 44.3% in December 2016 while it was 46.1% in December 2015.

The main partner for exports was Germany

In December 2016, the main partner country for exports was Germany with 1 billion 189 million dollars. The country was followed by Iraq (795 million dollars), the United Kingdom (768 million dollars) and the UAE (759 million dollars).

The top country for imports was China

In December 2016, the top country for Turkey's imports was China (1 billion 863 million dollars). The country was followed by Germany (1 billion 813 million dollars), Russia (1 billion 352 million dollars) and Italy (902 million dollars).

Ratio of exports of high-tech products in manufacturing industries was 4%

Foreign trade by technology intensity covers the manufacturing industries' products in classification of ISIC Rev.3. According to the ISIC Rev.3, the ratio of manufacturing industries products in total exports was 92.1% in December. The ratio of high-technology products in manufacturing industries was 4%. The ratio of medium-high-technology products in manufacturing industries' products was 35.7%.

Ratio of imports of high-tech products in manufacturing industries was 16.7%

The ratio of manufacturing industries' products in total imports was 82.9%. The ratio of high-technology products in manufacturing industries' products was 16.7% in December 2016. The ratio of medium-high-technology products in manufacturing industries' products was 42.5%.
