Susan M. Holden, a partner at the law firm of SiebenCarey, has been elected 2018 Minnesota Chapter President of the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Established in 1957, ABOTA is an “invitation only” organization, consisting of both defense and plaintiffs lawyers, with 6,500 members nationally and 180 lawyers in the Minnesota chapter. ABOTA membership criteria requires extensive civil jury trial experience and an honorable ethical reputation among peers and the judiciary. The organization is dedicated to elevating civility and professionalism in law practice, improving the civil justice system, and preserving the right to civil jury trial guaranteed by the Seventh Amendment.

“It is truly an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to help lead the Minnesota Chapter and represent many of the most experienced trial attorneys in Minnesota,” said Holden. “ABOTA’s members are among the most accomplished, dedicated and successful lawyers. I am very grateful that I can do my small part to promote and advance ABOTA’s mission.”

In addition to her current position, Holden served the Minnesota Chapter of ABOTA as Vice President in 2017, and in prior years as treasurer, secretary, and member of the Executive Committee. Holden has had a long and distinguished career at SiebenCarey, where she is a partner and shareholder, representing clients in a variety of complex personal injury and wrongful death claims. In her years of practicing law, she has earned a reputation as a hard-working and talented trial lawyer. Since 1995 she has been certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the Minnesota State Bar Association, a distinction achieved by less than one percent of female lawyers in Minnesota.

Holden is a past president of both the Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA) and the Hennepin County Bar Association (HCBA). She is a recipient of the MSBA’s Professional Excellence Award in recognition of outstanding contributions to the Bar and the profession, and the HCBA Professionalism Award in recognition of the highest level of competence, integrity and ethical conduct in the profession. Holden remains active in bar associations at the local, state and national levels.
