More than 200 parents, students, and teachers representing all forms of school choice in Iowa will join with Governor Terry Branstad and Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds for a celebration of educational opportunity in Des Moines during National School Choice Week.

On Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. more than 200 supporters will gather at the State Historical Museum in Des Moines.

In addition to remarks by Gov. Branstad and Lt. Gov. Reynolds, families and administrators representing diverse school choice options will also share their stories. The governor will officially proclaim School Choice Week in Iowa during the event.

The goal of the celebration is to highlight the success of school choice in Iowa and raise awareness of the impact educational opportunity has on Iowa students. The celebration is timed to coincide with National School Choice Week (January 22-28, 2017), which will feature more than 21,000 events across the country.

“We enjoy many great educational options in Iowa and National School Choice Week is a great time to raise awareness among parents about the choices available to them,” said Trish Wilger of Iowa Alliance for Choice in Education.

Event planners include Iowa Alliance for Choice in Education and Americans for Prosperity.

Held every January, National School Choice Week is an independent public awareness effort designed to shine a positive spotlight on effective education options for every child. Through more than 21,000 independently planned events across the country, National School Choice Week raises public awareness of all types of educational choices available to children. These options include traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, online learning, private schools, and homeschooling.
