Statistical Office of Republic of Slovenia : Retail trade sales in 2017 up by 8.2% over the previous year

Volume turnover in retail trade in December 2017 lower at the monthly and higher at the annual level

In December 2017 volume turnover in retail trade decreased by 2.3% at the monthly level. The fall was mainly influenced by lower volume turnover in specialized stores with motor fuels (by 5.6%). Additionally, turnover in retail trade except automotive fuel decreased too (by 0.4%). The volume of sales in retail trade with non-food decreased by 1.5% over the previous month, while in retail trade with food slightly it increased (by 0.4%).

Compared to December 2016 volume turnover increased by 1.7%. The highest increase was recorded in retail trade except automotive fuel; the volume of sales in retail trade with non-food increased by 5.2% and in retail trade with food by 5.3%. At the annual level, in December 2017, in specialized stores with motor fuels, the biggest drop in volume turnover this year was recorded; the volume of sales of motor fuels decreased by 6.2% compared to December 2016.

In 2017 volume turnover in retail trade increased by 8.2% compared to the previous year, which is a 4.2 percentage points higher increase than in 2016 compared to 2015. The highest increase was recorded in specialized stores with motor fuels (by 16.7%), while volume turnover also increased in retail trade except automotive fuel (by 4.1%). The volume of sales in retail trade with food increased by 2.3% in 2017, which is a 3.3 percentage points higher increase than last year, and the sales of non-food increased by 5.7%, which is a 1.8 percentage points lower increase than last year.

Turnover in trade and repair of motor vehicles higher at the monthly and at the annual level

In December 2017 volume turnover in retail sale and repair of motor vehicles increased by 5.4% at the monthly level and by 21.7% at the annual level. Annual growth of volume turnover was the highest this year.

In 2017 volume turnover in retail sale and repair of motor vehicles was 15.9% higher than in the previous year. Growth somewhat declined compared to previous years, it was 6.4 percentage points lower than last year's growth.
