Statistical Office of Republic of Slovenia : In November 2016 more meat gained in Slovene slaughterhouses than a month before

In November 2016 more animals slaughtered than in the previous month
Compared to the previous month, the number of horses slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses was higher by about 35% (i.e. about 50 animals), of cattle by about 20% (i.e. about 2,000 animals) and of pigs by about 8% (i.e. about 2,000 animals). In the same comparison the number of slaughtered sheep was lower by about 11% (i.e. about 100 animals) and of poultry by about 5% (i.e. about 144,000 animals).

The total carcass weight followed the trends in the number of slaughtered animals. The total carcass weight of slaughtered horses increased by about 26% (weight difference of about 8,000 kg), of cattle by about 17% (weight difference of about 612,000 kg) and of pigs by about 12% (weight difference of about 215,000 kg). In the same comparison the total carcass weight of sheep went down by about 11% (weight difference of about 1,000 kg) and of poultry by about 7% (weight difference of about 376,000).

Compared to November 2015, the number of sheep slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses in November 2016 was higher by about 21%, of cattle by about 9%, and of pigs and poultry by about 6%. In the same comparison a decrease was recorded only in horses (by about 6%).

Compared to November 2015, the total weight of dressed carcasses of sheep slaughtered in November 2016 increased by about 21%, of cattle and pigs by about 9% and of poultry by about 6%. The total weight of dressed carcasses of slaughtered horses in November 2016 went down by about 13%.

In November 2016, 12 cattle imported from Croatia and Italy with the total carcass weight of about 5 tons were slaughtered in Slovene slaughterhouses. There was no slaughter of imported pigs and poultry.
