Cross-government approach at heart of new drive to boost exports

Thu, 21 January 2016

Press notice relating to a new whole of government approach to drive exports, which has been announced by Lord Maude today. As you will see, UKTI will be at the heart of this approach: focusing on increasing both the value of exports and the volume of exporters and co-ordinating a whole of government effort.

To increase the value of exports, they will be concentrating resources on the markets and sectors in which the UK is, or can be, a strong competitor and where the government can really add value. They will be locating UKTI expertise into the Whitehall departments responsible for certain sectors to ensure it is joined up with domestic policy-making and deep sector expertise. And they will be supporting Departmental ministers as they oversee the development and delivery of sector export plans.

To increase the volume of exporters, they will be using new technology to meet the needs of more and more businesses with greater efficiency and effectiveness; developing a single digital platform to help businesses find the export information and support they need, be it from Government or private sector providers; and introducing more bespoke, direct and practical support for companies wanting to start or increase exporting.

They will, of course, also retain their strong focus on inward investment.
