Four Volvo 7900 electric-hybrid buses are awaited in the city of Värnamo in southern Sweden. With this order, the Swedish city of just over 19,000 people will become the first in the country to have all-electric public transport. The delivery is planned for autumn 2017.

The buses ordered for Värnamo will operate on renewable electricity (for 70% of the route) and renewable HVO fuel. Due to electric-hybrid technology, these efficient versions of traditionally reliable Volvo buses consume about 60% less energy and cut CO2 emissions by 90%.

It takes 3-4 minutes for the charging system, known as opportunity charging, to provide the batteries with the necessary electric power. The 7900 electric-hybrid buses are delivered together with their ABB charging stations. Also, the bus manufacturer assumes responsibility for maintenance of both the vehicles and their batteries at a fixed monthly cost.

As of today, Volvo's all-electric and electric-hybrid buses are already in operation in other Swedish cities of Gothenburg and Stockholm, as well as outside the country (Hamburg, Luxemburg and Curitiba).
