TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Jan 20, 2015) - "Return on Human Capital" is what SPB partner Michel Therrien (Partner, Organizational Psychology Consultant) says is the foundation of the organizational psychology consultant company's new HR development program which will be one of the hot topics at its booth at the HRPA 2015 show.

SPB has been gathering data throughout its 35 year history, and there are several key traits that make a good leader, especially in today's turbulent, global economy. Therrien says these traits include "courage to act, agility, ability to build trust, engage, develop, innovate, be bold and read the environment." He notes that ironically, these are often the opposite of the traits that made them key performers and brought them to the upper levels of the organization. In fact, SPB's recent talent analytics study of 1,776 Canadian executives demonstrates that their main strengths are Focus on Results and Respecting Commitments, and that they lack bench strength in Developing Strategy and Talent, key priorities for maintaining an organization's competitive advantage.

Fellow organizational psychologist and SPB partner Kimberlea Baron notes "that organizational leadership has to thrive in a diverse and complex marketplace that is extremely volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous." She adds that in many cases, there is no ideal perfect leader, and that executive teams must combine traits of several leaders to achieve this balance, a particular challenge in a country such as Canada, which often acts as a "short-term trampoline to bigger markets."

Both partners add that companies must identify and grow leaders as soon as possible, and that SPB's Leadership DNA studies draw on more than 3,000 leadership assessments done every year for the past three decades.

SPB is located at Booth 454, at the HRPA 2015 Trade Show that runs January 21 to 23 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The theme of this year's conference is the business of human resources (HR).
