NEW YORK, Jan. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Founded by and for former elite athletes, TEAM Services Corporation offers new career opportunities to ex-players who often struggle to assimilate to life after professional sports. "We need business enterprises that are willing to help former athletes channel their talents in a new direction," said Pro Football Hall of Famer Anthony Munoz as he and TEAM Services CEO Andre Farr rang the NASDAQ's closing bell yesterday.

On the eve of Super Bowl XLVIII, Munoz noted many former athletes have great difficulty leaving the field and entering the real world after devoting their lives to a sport that leaves little time to develop workforce skills. Documentation shows NFL careers are short--on average 4.6 years--and many NFL players have a hard time finding meaning, structure and financial stability when their glory days end. After two years of retirement, 78 percent are bankrupt or under great financial stress and just 49 percent have jobs within a year of leaving the NFL.

"Next Sunday, over 100 million Americans will watch 92 modern day gladiators go head to head on the playing field who have dedicated most of their lives to prepare for those glory moments, and who are at their professional peaks at 26 years old on average," Munoz said. "After our proverbial 15 minutes of fame, we need to be productive and contribute to a greater whole off the field."

Providing crowd management and event staffing, TEAM Services enables former athletes to serve their local communities and develop meaningful second careers. Another distinctive characteristic is TEAM Services' mantra to offer former players the chance to join a new 'TEAM' bolstered by strong, formative core values including Teamwork, Excellence, Accountability and Measurability. Supportive of the communities where the company recruits and operates, TEAM Services personnel serve as role models to young people.

To highlight TEAM Services, a rarity in this field as a Minority-owned Business Enterprise, the Anthony Munoz Foundation partnered with the firm to launch it formally. Other supporters participating in the ceremony were 'Best Man Holiday' Director Malcolm Lee; New York Knicks power forward Kenyon Martin; TEAM Services Vice President and former college player Michael Munoz; and former U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) National Director David Hinson.

"Anthony asked me to join him because he believes the minority-owned business we recently founded is an example of what he's talking about here today--an enterprise that's socially responsible to former athletes," said Farr.

The entrepreneur and former football player behind the company, Farr patterned it after world leader Contemporary Services Corporation (CSC), which is owned by his friend and mentor Damon Zumwalt. Before founding TEAM Services, Farr spent a year learning best-in-class industry standards from Zumwalt.

Based in Los Angeles, TEAM Services also operates offices in Cincinnati and New Orleans and has plans to expand within the coming year. The Cincinnati office will be led by Anthony Munoz and his son Michael, a former offensive tackle for the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
