Clinical teams at BJC HealthCare will soon have access to predictive models at the point of care through ePRISM®, a technology platform from Health Outcomes Sciences (HOS) that automates calculations of risk and appropriate use for individual patients.

Barnes-Jewish Hospital, a member of BJC HealthCare, has been using ePRISM® since January 2013. According to Dr. Bruce Hall, Vice President of Patient-Centered Outcomes and the Clinical Advisory Group at the BJC Center for Clinical Excellence, “The customized risk calculations available through the technology have proven integral to several quality initiatives at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. We look forward to expanding use of this technology to our other facilities.”

ePRISM® is designed to aid clinical decision-making through personalization of evidence. BJC HealthCare will be implementing the ePRISM® solution suite for percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), which includes predictive models for risk of bleeding, risk of acute kidney injury, risk of mortality, risk of restenosis and appropriate use of coronary revascularization.

“Knowing a patient’s risk of specific complications makes for better, more informed clinical decision-making,” explains Matt Wilson, President and CEO of HOS, “and through ePRISM®, this is accomplished in real-time.”

ePRISM® is accessible from all types of computing devices, including desktops, laptops, tablets, iPads and smartphones. BJC HealthCare will benefit from integrating the output visualization layer of ePRISM®, referred to as eLUMEN™, into its cath lab booms. The data needed to run the predictive models will be drawn directly from the EHR system.

BJC HealthCare has also licensed the Spectrum Reporting module of ePRISM®, which provides analytics that correlate actual and predicted outcomes.
