Witnesses and family members recounted how Comperatore immediately shielded his daughters when gunfire erupted shortly after Trump began his speech, sacrificing his own life to protect them.

Craig Cirrincione served alongside Comperatore at the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company.

"He would want share the good times and think of him. But he wouldn't want to be thought of as a hero. But that's that's definitely how he should be remembered. He's just one of the guys, we don't do it for the thanks or the pat on the back. Nothing like that, we do it because we love it and we have a passion for it. And that's what he did, saving his family, because of just the love and the passion he had."

The firehouse has draped his gear in black and displayed it as a memorial.

Meanwhile the local community has rallied around the Comperatore family.

A GoFundMe campaign has raised over $151,000 to support them.

Governor Josh Shapiro has also ordered state flags to be flown at half-mast to honor the fallen hero.
