Nevada added industrial jobs at twice the rate of U.S. manufacturing growth over the past year, reports the 2015 Nevada Manufacturers Directory®, a manufacturers database and directory published by Manufacturers’ News, Inc. (MNI). According to data collected by MNI, Nevada manufacturers added 1,714 jobs, or 3% from November 2013 to November 2014, compared to 1.4% national average gain for the same time period as reported by the Labor Department.

Manufacturers’ News reports Nevada is now home to 1,823 manufacturers employing 57,835 workers.

“Following years of losses stemming from the housing crisis and recession, Nevada’s industrial sector is beginning to climb back,” says Tom Dubin, President of the Evanston, IL-based publishing company, which has been surveying industry since 1912. “The advent of 'green' technologies has gone a long way to promote industrial investment and the state’s more traditional sectors, such as mining, are on the upswing.”

Manufacturers’ News reports gains the metal mining sector added jobs at a rate of 4.2%, and employs 7,290, ranking it first in the state for industrial employment, while employment in the second-ranked fabricated metals industry rose 11%, and currently numbers 5,199.

Other notable employment gains were seen in food products, up 8.6%; medical instruments, up 6.7%; lumber/wood, up 4.4%; transportation equipment, up 4%; and electronics, up 2.6%.

Losses were reported in furniture/fixtures, down 7.5%; industrial machinery, down 2.8%; and primary metals, down 2.8%.
