Bratislava (17 January) 'We have eminent interest in building trust between the European Union and Turkey,' emphasized State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of SR and Slovak Government Proxy for the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Ivan Korčok, in talks with the Ambassador Designate of the Republic of Turkey, Aslıgül Üğdül, today.

State Secretary Korčok and Ambassador Üğdül acknowledged the excellent standard of bilateral relations between Slovakia and Turkey that is being translated into a growing trade exchange and deepening cooperation in the area of tourism.

The partners focused also on an evaluation of the outcomes from Slovakia's first ever Presidency of the Council of the EU. Ambassador Üğdül appreciated the course of the Slovak Presidency and the role of the Slovak Republic in resumption of dialogue and trust between the EU and Turkey following the July failed coup attempt.

State Secretary Korčok concluded the reception with an expression of conviction that the activities of incoming Ambassador Üğdül will contribute to further deepening of good relations between our countries. The meeting preceded the presentation of credentials by the new Ambassador to the President of the Slovak Republic, Andrej Kiska, scheduled for 18 January 2017.
