Ministry of Foreign Affairs of People Republ : Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa of Tanzania Meets with Wang Yi

On January 9, 2017 local time, entrusted by President John Magufuli, who was in remote areas to guide local disaster relief work, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa of Tanzania met in Dar es Salaam with Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who was visiting the country upon invitation.

Kassim Majaliwa first conveyed sincere greetings from President John Magufuli to President Xi Jinping. Kassim Majaliwa said that the friendship between Tanzania and China was personally forged by Chairman Mao Zedong, President Julius Nyerere and other older generation of leaders of both countries, and it stays firm and solid until today. For a long time, China has provided a great deal of assistance to the development of Tanzania, and it is the most trustworthy friend and partner of Tanzania. The Tanzanian side thanks China for listing Tanzania as one of the four demonstration and pioneering countries for China-Africa production capacity cooperation, hoping that more Chinese enterprises will participate in Tanzania's construction projects. Grateful for China's resolute assistance to the construction of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (Taraza) when it was not prosperous half a century ago, Tanzania is willing to work with China and Zambia to revitalize Taraza under the new situation and let it play a greater role in the development of Tanzania, Zambia as well as other countries along the railway. The Tanzanian side always firmly adheres to the one-China policy and will continue to offer China strong support on all issues concerning China's core interests.

Wang Yi also asked Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa to convey President Xi Jinping's warm regards to President John Magufuli. Wang Yi agreed with Kassim Majaliwa's high praise on China-Tanzania friendship, and said that China always regards Tanzania as the most reliable strategic partner. Under joint efforts of the two countries, China-Tanzania all-round cooperation has achieved fruitful results in recent years. China has become Tanzania's largest trade partner, largest project contractor and main investment source country. China-Tanzania cooperation has been at the forefront of China-Africa cooperation. The two sides should further consolidate the foundations of political mutual trust and people's friendship, mainly forge four highlights including mutually beneficial cooperation, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, military exchanges and international coordination, and effectively push for more implementation of the outcomes of the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Tanzania, so as to bring more benefit to the Tanzanian people. China is willing to, together with Tanzania and Zambia, continuously conduct discussions on comprehensively upgrading the Taraza, in order to build this road of freedom and friendship, which inspired Africa's national independence and liberation causes back in the day, into a road of cooperation and prosperity that could boost the development of Tanzania, Zambia as well as the entire African continent in the new era.
