It is being reported in the some section of media for the past few days that power supply to the Capital Delhi has been affected due to fuel shortage at Dadri Thermal Power Plant of NTPC which supplies a major chunk of power to Delhi. It has been reported that coal shortage at Dadri has resulted in shutdown of a 500 MW unit at this power plant. But there is no shortage of coal supply from Coal India Limited (CIL) at the moment. Infact coal dispatches have been more than the Assured Coal Quantity (ACQ) during January this year.
Coal India Limited has reported that dispatches to Dadri Power Plant during the period April - December 2012 have been more than 101% of the Assured Coal Quantity (ACQ) fixed for this plant. During whole January of this year also, coal dispatches have been more than the ACQ. Railways have also reported that since the beginning of the current financial year, Dadri has been getting more than 6 railway rakes per day for meeting their requirement. In January this year, till 8th, 51 rakes of coal have been loaded for supply to Dadri. The plant is however having a low stock of coal because of higher generation of power and having made fewer imports.

Coal supply to Dadri Power Plant is mainly made by Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) from its Piparwar Washery in North Karanpura. Coal supplies were affected for a very short period because of technical problem at the plant. The problem has now been set right and normal supply has resumed since 4th January.
